Midway, Kentucky

Elkwood Farm is a project aimed at revitalizing a historic site in a small town called Midway. The site consists of a main residence, several large hay barns, and a secondary residence. These structures, long forgotten, are situated amongst towering trees and rolling hay fields. Chickens and other resident animals roam the property and relics of the home’s past bring back images of colonial Kentucky: a side porch for receiving stage coaches, a dugout cellar in the backyard, hand-hewn timbers beneath the floor.
The images below are a vision for the site’s transformation into a Kentuckian oasis of sorts: The main house as a reception and administrative space for curious visitors; the hay barn as a rendezvous for impending newly-weds, an abandoned hay field reinvented for the bourbon industry.
These layered landscapes - historical and modern, agricultural and industrial - enrich the space and offer visitors a unique insight into the small-town gems of Kentucky and the rich history in which they were forged.
